Neuroimaging Research Status of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Treating IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a common clinical functional gastrointestinal disease, with recurrent abdominal pain, abdominal bloating or abdominal discomfort, and changes in bowel movement as the main clinical manifestations. It is thought to be caused by abnormal brain-gut interaction under multiple factors, although the specific pathogenesis has not been confirmed.Acupuncture and moxibustion is effective in treating IBS,but its mechanism is still unclear. The development of neuroimaging technology provides the possibility to study its central mechanism. It is found that acupuncture and moxibustion can regulate multiple brain regions in IBS patients, but the conclusions are not consistent yet. This study made a review on the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in treatment of IBS by using neuroimaging methods.
