Mechanism of Acupuncture in Treating Cardiac Arrhythmia
Cardiac arrhythmia is a common cardiovascular disorder, with malignant arrhythmias being a high-risk factor for sudden cardiac death.Acupuncture therapy is characterized by its simplicity, convenience, safety and effectiveness. It not only helps control arrhythmias, but also has minimal side effects, making it a viable adjunctive treatment option in clinical practice.By reviewing relevant researches on acupuncture for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias both domestically and abroad, this study summarized that acupuncture can counteract arrhythmias through various pathways, including modulation of neural activity, inhibition of calcium overload, suppression of cellular autophagy and apoptosis, inhibition of inflammatory responses, and regulation of endocrine function. The underlying mechanisms involve the signaling pathways of lateral hypothalamic area(LHA)-fastigial nucleus(FN)neural circuit, locus coeruleus(LC),vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP),k-opioid receptor(k-OR),elevation of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(ROS),signaling pathway of phosphatidylinositide 3-kinases(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt),regulation of inflammatory genes, and α1 A-adrenergic receptor(α1 A-AR).This study aims to provide theoretical basis for the mechanism of acupuncture in treating arrhythmias.
