Exploration of Hewei Anshen Acupuncture in Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder Based on Brain-Gut Axis
Generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)is a mental illness with anxiety and depression as the main manifestations. In recent years, under the pressure of modern fast-paced life, the incidence of this disease has increased year by year. The brain-gut axis theory proposed by modern medicine believes that the brain and intestine are related, and the Miraculous Pivot has a saying,'Both Large Intestine and Small Intestine belong to Stomach',so the combination of the two is proposed to treat GAD with the Hewei Anshen(harmonize Stomach and calm Shen)method. This study discusses the theoretical basis for treating GAD by Hewei Anshen acupuncture from the perspectives of both the internal organs and meridians. It also explores the influence of acupuncture to the central nervous system, the enteric nervous system,brain-gut peptides, and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
