Clinical Study on Treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia of Wind-Cold Type by Deep Needling ST7 Combined with Taiyi Miraculous Moxa Roll
Objective:To compare the clinical effects of deep needling Xiaguan acupoint(ST7)combined with Taiyi miraculous moxa roll and conventional acupuncture in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia(TN)of wind-cold type.Methods:60 patients with TN of wind-cold type were randomly divided into the observation group(n=30)and the control group(n=30).The observation group was treated with deep triple needling ST7 combined with Taiyi miraculous moxa roll,and the control group was treated with conventional acupuncture.All the patients were treated once per day,six times per week for four weeks.The scores of simple McGill pain questionnaire(VAS score,PRI score,PPI score),TCM symptom score,clinical total impression score(CGIS),comprehensive symptom score,the serum levels of substance P(SP),5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)and beta-endorphine(β-EP)were compared between before and after the treatment in the two groups.The adverse reactions were recorded in both groups.Results:The scores of VAS,PPI,PRI and TCM symptoms,as well as the serum content of SP were lower in the observation group than those in the control group after the treatment(P＜0.05).The serum contents of 5-HT and β-EP were higher after the treatment than those before the treatment in the observation group(P＜0.05),which were higher in the observation group than those in the control group after the treatment(P＜0.05).There were no serious adverse reactions in both groups.Conclusion:The therapy of deep triple needling ST7 combined with Taiyi miraculous moxa roll can relieve the pain in the treatment of TN,which is superior to conventional acupuncture.The mechanism may be related to the changes of SP,β-EP and 5-HT.
