Exploring Acupuncture and Moxibustion Treatment for KOA Based on Gut-Joint Axis Theory
When the gut microbiota becomes imbalanced,it can trigger chronic systemic inflammatory responses, affecting joint areas.Acupuncture and moxibustion have the potential to improve the gut micro-ecosystem and modulate levels of various cytokines, thereby exerting therapeutic effects on joint diseases.Combing TCM theory of Zang-Fu organs and meridian pathways with modern experimental research, and based on the physiological and pathological relationships between Spleen,Stomach,Intestines and joints,as well as their meridian connections, this approach uses the microbiota-mediated gut-joint axis as a starting point. It aims to elucidate the mechanism by which acupuncture and moxibustion regulate gut microbiota to treat knee osteoarthritis(KOA).By selecting acupoints based on the regulation of gut microecological balance and focusing on the gut-joint axis, this provides a new perspective for clinical diagnosis and treatment of KOA.
