Therapeutic Effect of Acupotomy Releasing Heyangnei on KOA Patients and Its Mechanism of Activating Yang and Softening Sinew
Objective:To investigate the effect of acupotomy release Heyangnei on improving joint activity and lower limb skin temperature in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA),and to explore the relevant mechanisms of activating Yang and softening sinew.Methods:60 patients with KOA were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group was treated with acupotomy releasing Heyangnei, whereas the control group was treated with sham acupotomy.Lequesne score, joint range of motion(ROM),and lower limb skin temperature were compared among before the treatment, after the treatment, and one month of the follow-up in the two groups.Clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups. Results:In terms of Lequesne score, the total score and the three sub-scores were significantly decreased after the treatment compared to those before the treatment in the two groups(P<0.05);the total score and the three-sub scores were significantly decreased during the follow-up compared to those before the treatment in the treatment group(P<0.05),which were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).In terms of ROM,it was increased after the treatment compared to that before the treatment in the two groups(P<0.05);it was increased during the follow-up compared to that before the treatment in the treatment group, which was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).In terms of temperatures, they were increased in the thigh and anterior knee areas after the treatment compared to those before the treatment in the two groups(P<0.05);they were increased in the popliteal fossa area, medial knee area, and posterior calf area after the treatment compared to those before the treatment in the treatment group(P<0.05),which were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05);the temperatures in the thigh, around the knee,in the posterior, medial, and lateral calf areas were increased during the follow-up compared to those before the treatment in the treatment group(P<0.05),which were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).In terms of clinical efficacy, the total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group during the follow-up(P<0.05).Conclusion:The effect of acupotomy therapy on improving joint function in KOA patients is related to releasing Heyangnei by acupotomy to dredge the meridians around the knee, increasing lower limb temperature, dissipating blood stasis, and exerting the effect of activating Yang and softening sinew.
