Exploring Mechanism of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Treatment of PD Based on Brain-Gut Axis Theory
Parkinson's disease(PD)is a common neurodegenerative disorder, and its diagnosis and treatment have been key research topics in the academic community. In recent years, the brain-gut axis has been proven to be closely related to the onset and progression of PD.Acupuncture and moxibustion,as non-pharmacological treatments, has been shown to improve both motor and non-motor symptoms in PD patients to some extent. This study, through exploring the effects of the brain-gut axis on PD and the mechanisms of acupuncture and moxibustion in PD treatment, reveals that acupuncture and moxibustion can influence the brain-gut axis by regulating gut mocrobiota, the vagus nerve, the neuro-endocrine system, and the neuro-immune system, which in turn helps alleviate PD symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. Therefore, acupuncture and moxibustion's modulation of the brain-gut axis may offer new insights into the prevention and treatment of PD.
