A Study on the Personal Growth Journey from Vocational School Students to PhD Candidates:A Case Analysis Based on Life Course
In the era of widespread higher education, vocational education should pave the way for individual career development and foster pathways for personal growth and success.Through tracing and exploring the life histories of three doctoral students who originated from vocational schools, this study reveals that their educational journeys went through periods of confusion before entering the vocational education system, transformation upon entering the system, breaking away from the vocational education system, and future career development.During this process, structural factors such as the era background and policy systems played a dominant role in shaping their life trajectories. However, individual agency and the influence of significant others also impacted the changes in their personal life paths.Based on these findings, suggestions are proposed for policymakers, educators, and vocational school students, including addressing diverse student needs, emphasizing career positioning and market information dissemination, and considering the integration of real-life conditions and subjective agency.
