A Study on the Attractiveness of American Community Colleges from the Perspective of Subjective Selectivity:Qualitative Analysis based on Interviews with Thirty-one American Community College Students
Against the backdrop of the significant expansion of vocational education enrollment in China, the issue of insufficient attractiveness of vocational education has become increasingly important. In contrast,American community colleges have a strong appeal within the education system. This study analyzes interviews with thirty-one American community college students and applies grounded theory to find that American community colleges meet various student needs, pay attention to students'economic burden and hidden costs, and achieve a balance between knowledge and emotion and between personal growth and career development.Considering the methodology used to build the attractiveness of American community colleges,it is suggested that vocational colleges in China should respect students'subjective selectivity, shift from training to care, from vocational education to career education, and from a focus on society to a focus on students. This will help construct an attractive system for vocational colleges in China.
