Forty Years of Modernization in Chinese Elderly Education:Review and Prospect
The modernization of elderly education is a process accompanied by the transformation of elderly education forms, with its modern characteristics manifested in aspects such as humanity, democracy, inclusiveness, productivity, professionalism, and informatization. Over the past forty years,China's elderly education has been moving towards modernization, but it also faces challenges. While embodying the concept of prioritizing the elderly,it has not been fully implemented. Democracy has been expanding, but there are issues with its breadth and depth. A pattern of participation from all sectors of society in elderly education has initially formed, but a better inclusive education system has yet to be established. It has gradually shifted from ensuring that the elderly enjoy themselves to enabling them to contribute, but the productive nature of elderly education is still weak. Some achievements have been made in the professional development of teachers, but the level of professionalization is still low. While the informatization of elderly education has developed rapidly,it has not yet adapted to the needs of digital transformation. We should further enhance the modernity of China's elderly education and establish a Chinese-style modernization system for elderly education based on balancing general and specific considerations.
