Effects of Diatomite on Germination and Membrane Lipid Peroxidation of Rice Seed under Copper Stress
The effects of diatomite on germination and membrane lipid peroxidation of rice seed under copper stress were investigated in hydroponic conditions. The results showed that the treatment with 25 mg/L of CuSO4 solution had a marked inhibition effect on germination of rice seed, resulting in no radicle growth, significantly reduced length and weight of embryo and significantly increased malondialdehyde content and relative conductivity.Addition of 1.25 ~ 10.00 g/L of diatomite under copper stress conditions could promote seed germination of rice and reduce malondialdehyde content and relative conductivity, indicating that diatomite can ameliorate the inhibition of copper on germination of rice seed. The optimal diatomite concentration was found to be 5.00 g/L in this study.
