Breeding and Application of New Super Hybrid Rice Combination Weiliangyou 7713 with Resistance to Brown Planthopper
An excellent restorer line Huahui 7713 with resistances to both rice blast and brown planthopper was created by crossing the high-quality backbone restorer line R6888 with the brown planthopper resistant donor parent Luoyang 69(containing the genes of Bph6 and Bph9),combined with brown planthopper resistance identification and molecular marker assisted selection.A new hybrid rice combination Weiliangyou 7713 with resistance to brown planthopper was thus developed from Huahui 7713 and Huawei 338S,a two-line male sterile line with low critical temperature.Weiliangyou 7713 has good yielding ability,fine grain quality and resistance to brown planthopper.It was approved by the National Crop Variety Appraisal Committee in 2021,and it was listed as an indica super rice variety of two-line hybrid rice in 2023.It is the first nationally-approved super rice variety with high quality and resistance to brown planthopper in China and has a good application prospect.
