A Preliminary Study on Flowering Habits and Outcrossing Characteristics of Two PTGMS Lines in Rice
In comparison to the control line HD9802S,this study investigated the flowering habits and cross-pollination characteristics of two newly developed indica photoperiod-thermo-sensitive genic male sterile(PTGMS)lines,Heng 59S and Shuangxiang 77S.The results showed that Heng 59S exhibited a concentrated blooming time with a clear peak, longer flowering duration, higher stigma exsertion rate, and stronger stigma vigor, which favor hybrid seed production. While Shuangxiang 77S also had a concentrated blooming time with a clear peak, but its flowering duration was shorter and it showed lower stigma exsertion rate and weaker stigma vitality.Comparing the cross-pollination characteristics of the two sterile lines revealed that both total stigma exsertion rate and double stigma exsertion rate were significantly higher in Heng 59S than in Shuangxiang 77S.This suggests that Heng 59S is more favorable for successful cross-pollination and seed setting, making it an excellent candidate for use as a male sterile line in breeding programs.
