摘要
作为社会批评家、文化批评家和诗人,阿诺德在《吉普赛学者》中描绘出通过"秘术"实现乌托邦式理想社会的愿景."吉普赛学者"这一文学想象的客体是牛津学者与吉普赛人的双重建构,体现了学者本人对社会信仰式微、道德弱化的伦理困境的忧虑以及对吉普赛"秘术"济世的理想追求.这一"秘术"与阿诺德后期的文化济世思想一脉相承,均以实现乌托邦式完美社会为目的.
Abstract
As a social critics,cultural critics,and poet,Arnold depicts his Utopian ideal in The Schol-ar Gipsy by means of"the secret of art".Gipsy Scholar,an object of the literary imagination,has dual i-dentity of the Oxford scholar and the gipsy,reflecting the scholar's concerns about the ethical dilemma of declining social beliefs and weakening morality and his ideal of helping the people with the gypsies'"secret of art".This"secret of art"is in line with Arnold's thoughts to ameliorate the world through culture,both of which are aimed at building a Utopian society.
