History and Development of Jiangnan String and Bamboo Music in Hangzhou—A Conversation with Shen Fengquan
The prevalence of Jiangnan string and bamboo music in the area surrounding Taihu Lake is closely related to the history of Hangzhou and the representative figure of the Zhe School Guzheng,Wang Xunzhi.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,Shen Fengquan,a descendant of the renowned"Shen Family"of musicians in Pudong,Shanghai,came to work in Hangzhou.Through his long-term collaboration with partners such as Song Jinglian,a string and bamboo musician from Zhejiang,the development of contemporary Jiangnan string and bamboo music in Hangzhou has taken shape.The development of Jiangnan string and bamboo music in Hangzhou has its u-nique characteristics and some unresolved issues in its transmission.Shen Fengquan,as a national representative in-heritor of the intangible cultural heritage"Jiangnan string and bamboo music,"has devoted considerable time and thought to these issues.Furthermore,he has put forward personal recommendations for the future development of Jiangnan string and bamboo music in Hangzhou.
