Analysis on the current situation of social practice activities of medical students in a local medical university and the optimization of strategies
Objective To understand the acceptance and recognition of social practice activities among medical students at a local medical university,as well as their perceptions of the influencing factors and existing issues related to these activities, and to propose optimization strategies for social practice activities. Methods This study employed a questionnaire survey method.A total of 592 undergraduate and graduate students(hereinafter collectively referred to as"medical students")from 16 professional categories at a local medical university were selected as the research subjects.General demographic information and perceptions regarding the acceptance of social practice activities, the influencing factors, and the recognition of existing issues were collected.By statistically analyzing the relevant data, this study explored optimization strategies for the social practice activity system among medical students. Results A total of 99.32%(588/592)of the medical students acknowledged and accepted social practice activities, and 93.92%(556/592)believed that these activities had a positive impact on their professional studies. It was widely recognized that participation in social practice activities could enhance personal qualities and comprehensive abilities(x2=99.019,P<0.001).The top three influencing factors for achieving success in social practice activities were the quality of enduring hardship, adequate preparatory work, and qualified team collaboration(x2=47.625,P=0.003).The main issues currently existing in medical students'social practice activities included insufficient activity funds, unfamiliarity with the environment of the practice site, scarcity of practice bases, and inadequate material support(x2=145.500,P<0.001).Optimization strategies need to be proposed from aspects such as educational functions, organizational management, and support and protection. Conclusions The acceptance and recognition of social practice activities among students at local medical universities are high, and good organizational management is a key element of success. However, there is still a lack of support and protection. It is necessary to further explore educational functions, refine governance methods, and adopt a multi-faceted approach to optimize the strategies for medical students'social practice activities.
