The impact of physical education optional courses with different exercise intensities on the mental health of medical students
Objective To explore the impact of physical education optional courses with different exercise intensities on the mental health of medical students.Methods A total of 163 students from the five-year clinical medicine specialty of Grade 2021 at Hangzhou Medical College were selected as research subjects.They were intervened with physical education optional courses of different exercise intensities for four semesters.Changes in the mental health status of medical students before and after the intervention were analyzed through the university personality inventory(UPI).Results According to the UPI screening results,among the 163 medical students,37 students were classified as having potential serious psychological issues and 31 students as having potential general psychological issues.For medical students with potential serious mental health problems,high-intensity physical education optional courses were helpful in improving their mental health issues(P<0.05);for medical students who may have psychological issues,low-intensity physical education optional courses were more conducive to the improvement of their psychological issues(P<0.05).Conclusions The mental health status of contemporary medical students requires attention.Physical education optional courses with different exercise intensities have different effects on psychological intervention for medical students,and different exercise intensities of physical education optional courses should be chosen according to the different mental health conditions of medical students.
