Simulation Study on the Effects of Anode Position and Size on the Performance of Side-on Photomultiplier Tubes
An electron multiplication system of side-on photomultiplier tubes is modeled and simulated by using CST three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation software, and the effects of the anode position and anode size on the gain, rising time and electron transit time of the electron multiplication system are investigated. The gain and time characteristics of the electron multiplication system are improved through the optimization of the relevant parameters. The simulation investigation reveals that, based on the comprehensive consideration of the gain and time characteristics, the electron multiplication system performs better when the anode center is located at the position of(2.92 mm,8.99 mm)and the anode diameter is 0.6 mm.By optimizing the anode position and size, the electron multiplication system gain reaches 7.93 × 106,increased by 60.85%;the rising time reaches 1.30 ns,basically unchanged;and the electron transit time reaches 17.10 ns,decreased by 2.84%.
