Optimized Design of Hot Recycled Asphalt Mix Performance Based on Superpave Method and Balanced Design Method
Asphalt mixture recycling is an effective method for utilizing old materials in pavement maintenance.Currently in China, the main approach for designing the mix proportions of hot recycled asphalt mixture is the marshall design method. However, this method lacks correlation between its index system and actual performance. To address this issue, this study introduces foreign methods for designing asphalt mixtures(Superpave method and balanced mix design method)for the design of hot recycled asphalt mixtures.Nine types of recycled asphalt mixtures were prepared based on different asphalt mixture recycling rates and rejuvenators.Hamburg wheel tracking test,semi-circular bending test, and freeze-thaw splitting test were conducted to study the rutting resistance, cracking resistance, and water stability of the asphalt mixtures. The test results indicate that the cracking resistance of the recycled asphalt mixtures prepared based on the optimal asphalt content determined by the Superpave method does not meet the specifications.Among them, aromatic hydrocarbon recycled asphalt mixture performs best in improving cracking resistance.Using the balanced mix design method for designing hot recycled asphalt mixtures can yield high-performance mixtures, with all performance indicators meeting specifications, which provides a design method for the widespread application of hot recycled asphalt mixtures in China.
