The Regional Methodology of Ethnic Corridor Studies:An Exploration on the Southwest Boarder Area
Previous studies on ethnic corridors tend to focus on the definition of the concept and scope of the corridor, the composition of ethnic groups and the exploitation and utilization of ethnic cultural industries. Thus, the research orientations on"linear passage"or"linear space"have a dominant position. In view of this shortcom-ing,this paper tries to put forward a regional methodology for ethnic corridor research, advocating that the ethnic corridor in the southwest border area, based on its geographical and cultural space, should establish a correlation with a larger regional scope.Through the network system formed by the corridors and channels,it presents the structural relationships and historical context of the"inside"and"outside",as well as the"upper"and"lower"levels within the region. In conducting research,it is important to not only focus on the historical interactions and developments among ethnic minority groups within the corridors and channels of the southwest borderlands, but also incorporate previously overlooked factors such as state power,Han migration, and the spread of Han culture.Only by doing so can we break free from the relatively limited"ethnic narrative"model and elevate our research perspec-tives to a broader domain.
