Politicization of Ethnic Fear from an International Perspective:types,Mechanisms, and Governance
The politics of fear is an important clue to understanding the political and social changes in the West after the end of the Cold War,and fear permeates and is deeply embedded in various ethnic issues, from the Holo-caust to ethnic fear syndrome. From the perspective of political psychology, ethnic fear, the culture of fear, the politics of fear, and the governance of fear have the potential to become key concepts for interpreting ethnic conflicts worldwide.Ethnic fear can be divided into five types:holistic terror, localized terror,event-based fear,event-based anxiety, and diffuse anxiety. The politicization of ethnic fear is caused by both political psychological proces-ses and political instrumental mechanisms. In the process of the evolution of ethnic fear, the formation of culture of fear and politics of fear is crucial. The mechanisms of the reproduction of ethnic fear in the political and social sys-tem include security mechanisms, memory politics, political communication, identity politics, and ideological attri-bution.Due to the complexity, multidimensionality, and deep-rooted causes of ethnic fear and its politicization, governing this issue is a challenging and paradoxical task that requires comprehensive and integrated approaches.
