Adapting Marxism Ethnic Theories to the Chinese Context and the Needs of the Times from the perspective of Chinese Definition of Minzu
Based on the introduction and controversy surrounding the term"Minzu"in its modern sense during the 20th century,this article examines the factors influencing the definition of Minzu over the past hundred years from the perspective of the community of the Chinese nation.The article discusses pre-1949 discourse and debates over"Minzu",including how it was conceptualized and articulated by the national government,how academic disputes were resolved,and explores perspectives and practical reasoning regarding"Minzu"of the Communist Party of China.Furthermore,this article focuses on post-1949 deliberations concerning ethnic categorizations and policy implementa-tions.It specifically investigates discussions and policy responses to ethnic classifications during the early periods of P.R.China,as well as strategic approaches to ethnic definitions within academic dialogues between China and the western countries ever since the reform and opening up.
