Paths to Build Elderly-friendly Communities with High Quality
In recent years,the rapid population aging in China has brought eldercare issues to the continuous fo-cus of societal concern.The construction of high-quality elderly-friendly communities has become an effective way to address the active aging of China's elderly.Based on the significant achievements of elderly-friendly community con-struction in China,the government has issued policies to establish standards for elderly-friendly community construc-tion that align with Chinese realities,established demonstrative elderly-friendly communities in both urban and rural areas to address some elderly individuals'community-based eldercare needs,and developed a scientific evaluation mechanism for elderly-friendly communities.However,there are still issues such as inadequate top-level design,un-balanced development among different regions,significant urban-rural differences,severe insufficient investment in the construction of elderly-friendly communities in rural areas,and a weak elderly service workforce.The government should establish and improve planning mechanisms,execution mechanisms,talent mechanisms,and intelligent mech-anisms,and construct feedback mechanisms to build long-lasting and feasible universally accessible elderly-friendly communities that serve all elderly populations instead of just a few of them.
