The Rise of Music Anthropology and Its Practice in China
Music anthropology is a branch of anthropology that focuses on the study of music art and all related social and cultural phenomena.In this article,based on a comparative study between China and the West,the au-thor summarizes the basic issues and development process of the discipline.Both the East and the West have com-monalities in terms of music anthropology:the research methods are basically the same;emphasis is laid on the ex-cavation,organization,and research of social,cultural,and spiritual connotations in music research;innovative exploration of music education and teaching practice are emphasized.Due to the distinct disciplinary traditions and cultural contexts of their research subjects,there are notable differences in the development of Western and Chinese music anthropology:rooted in their respective cultural foundations,their concept definitions vary;from the perspec-tive of comparative research,their modes of understanding and interpretation are different;as to the orientation of their scholarly ideas,their expression and application are different.Currently,the establishment of an independent knowledge,academic system and discourse framework of China is an arduous task with a long way to go,yet the prospects for Chinese music anthropology research are promising.
