Sum pamkhan po's Chos'byung Dpag bsam Ljon bzang and Its Value:The Connecting Role of Gelugpa High Monks from Amdo in Qing Dynasty's Administration of Mongolia and Tibet
Chos'byung Dpag bsam Ljon bzang(also known as Sumpa Buddhism History)was composed dur-ing the 18th century by Sum pa Ye shes Dpal'byor,a prominent monk of the Dgon long monastery in Qinghai Province. It holds a critical position in the development of Tibetan historical studies and is one of the most impor-tant historical works of Tibetan Buddhism. The historical context in which Chos'byung Dpag bsam Ljon bzang was produced fully reflects the important connecting role played by the Gelugpa(Yellow sect)high monks in the govern-ance of Qing frontier regions in the 17th to 18th centuries, providing a new perspective and vivid interpretation for a better understanding of the Qing Dynasty's administrative strategies over Mongolia and Tibet and its religious poli-cies of"promoting the Yellow Sect to pacify Mongolia".
