Changes in Fashion Values in Chinese Society since the Beginning of the 21st Century:An Examination Centered on"Fashion"Reports in People's Daily
This article analyzes 271 news reports themed around"fashion"published in the People's Daily o-ver a span of two decades(2002-2021),against the backdrop of China's accession to the World Trade Organization and entry into a new era.The study examines the trajectory and underlying reasons for the shifts in fashion values in Chinese society.The findings reveal that fashion-related news reports serve as an essential channel for reflecting so-cial trends and shaping public values.As a barometer of China's political,economic,social,and cultural develop-ment,the People's Daily has,over the past 20 years,primarily employed news articles,commentaries,and feature stories to document and lead the transformation of fashion values in Chinese society.The themes have evolved from initial coverage focusing on consumer and lifestyle fashion to current reports emphasizing cultural innovation.This shift from"encouraging consumption"to"cultural innovation"aligns with the intrinsic goals of fashion communica-tion and provides insight into the government's central priorities during different periods.The study highlights the significance of these changes for better understanding the creative transformation and innovative development of cul-ture.
