Survey of willingness to pay for bowel preparation drugs based on the contingent evaluation method
Objective To determine patients'willingness to pay(WTP)for bowel preparation medications and the WTP threshold,to promote rational medication use. Methods The WTP questionnaire was designed by dichotomous contingent evaluation method. The statistical data were described. The median cumulative frequency value was calculated as the mean WTP,and subgroup analysis was performed based on the characteristic variables of age groups and level of medical institutions. Results The mean WTP of the patients was 264.55 yuan/1%.The groups with the largest mean WTP in each subgroup were 30~40 year olds, from Northeast China, visiting a tertiary care institution, having an annual personal income of>350 000 yuan, and an annual household income of>600 000 yuan. Conclusion The WTP estimated in this survey may provide a threshold reference for the cost-effectiveness analysis of bowel preparation drugs. The dichotomous contingent evaluation method effectively guides patients to show their true willingness-to-pay.In general, the higher the level of the medical institutions the patients'visit and their income level, the higher their WTP.The threshold value can be adjusted with the characteristics of the population when using the threshold in practice.
