Application of quality control circle in reducing the residual rate of drug dispensing in pharmacy intravenous admixture services
Objective To reduce the residual rate of drug dispensing in pharmacy intravenous admixture services(PIVAS).Methods In accordance with the ten steps of quality control circle(QCC),we analysed the reasons for the residual rate of PIVAS,explored the counter measures and implementation, evaluated the effect and developed standards. Results The high residual rate of drug dispensing in PIVAS was mainly caused by incomplete dissolution of certain drugs, incomplete suction of minute quantities of drugs, and the lack of supervision.Accordingly,PIVAS formulated corrective measures such as selecting suitable solvents based on drug properties, regular spot checks on operations of related staff, randomly checking the residual amount of the dispensed drugs, and regular training and assessment. The residual rate of drugs in PIVAS was reduced from 39.03%to 14.00%after the counter measures, and standard workflow was developed to ensure the smooth operation of QCC.Through QCC,the daily problems were solved, and the use of QCC,the participation, and collaboration were strengthened among the team members. Conclusion The use of QCC to reduce the residual rate of drugs in PIVAS is feasible and provides reference for managing the residual rate of drug dispensing.
