Research progress on the role of mitochondrial function mediated by silent information regulator 3 in myocardial injury and traditional Chinese medicine intervention
Silent information regulator 3(SIRT3)is a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD)dependent deacetylase located in the mitochondria.ARer the activation, its downstream mitochondrial proteins can be deacetylated to regulate mitochondrial redox balance, energy metabolism, mitochondrial autophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, and other mitochondrial biological processes. The mitochondria have lots of myocardial cells.SIRT3 has great potential in the prevention and treatment of myocardial injury caused by mitochondrial dysfunction.More and more research reported that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and related active ingredients can activate the expression of SIRT3 and downstream pathway. This article summarized the role of SIRT3-mediated mitochondrial function in myocardial infarction, heart failure, myocardial hypertrophy and myocardial injury induced by diabetes and hypertension,as well as the research progress in TCM and related active ingredients that regulate SIRT3 expression,to provide reference for the clinical application of TCM targeting SIRT3 for cardiovascular diseases.
