Objective To optimize medication use and minimize adverse drug events during medication review in the elderly,particularly for those with various diseases and taking several medicines through a detailed interpretation of screening tool of older persons'prescriptions/screening tool to alert to right treatment(STOPP/START)criteria(version 3)in 2023.Methods We compared STOPP/START criteria of 2014(version 2)with version 3 of 2023 and summarized the differences.Results STOPP/START version 3 consisted of 190 criteria,54 of which were newly added,4 of which criteria were removed,and 31 revised.Meanwhile,3 parts/systems(indicated drugs,coagulation system,and the renal system)and 24 items were added,3 were removed,and 20 revised in the START new version.Conclusion The 2023 STOPP/START criteriaare more accurate and useful,facilitating clinicians and pharmacists in detecting and preventing adverse events and their consequences during routine review.Further technical support and cooperation between departments are needed.
