Chen Duxiu has mixed views on Confucian teachings and Confucius himself,but he was categorically opposed to Confucianism as a state religion:he believed it could neither become an independent religion nor be included in the constitution as a state religion.He holds a relatively fair attitude towards the positive and negative functions of Christianity.As for his general views on religion,many of his words seem to be contradictory,and some of his expressions are also somewhat radical.In particular,he does not seem to have a consistent opinion on the issue of abandoning religion,replacing religion,or rebuilding religion.At the end of the article,the author clarifies his views on the relationship between science and religion and the future of religion.
