Discussion on the Modern Evolution and Classified Protection Strategy of Military Defense Settlements on Ming Great Wall in Beijing,Tianjin, and Hebei
Humans are responsible for the construction and use of the Great Wall.During the Ming Dynasty,a large number of soldiers and civilians came to live and reside along the Great Wall, forming a special military defense settlement system. As a garrison city and a major command post, the military defense settlements along Ming Great Wall shouldered an important military mission at that time.Since the late Ming Dynasty, especially since the Qing Dynasty, when the military role of the Great Wall defense system gradually weakened, the original military defense settlements gradually evolved into ordinary residential settlements and continued to develop into rural, county, and even urban areas, which had a profound impact on the modern geographical pattern of cities in Beijing,Tianjin, and Hebei. This paper uses all the military defense settlements of Ming Great Wall within the scope of Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei as the main research object, and discusses their different evolution results and internal patterns in modern times. From the perspective of the relationship between people and heritage, based on the different evolutionary results of military defense settlements, this study focuses on the interactive relationship between the Great Wall military defense settlements and human post"heritagization",and summarizes four categories:"urban type","rural type","wilderness type",and"scenic area type",and explores the problems it faces and classified protection strategies.
