Huanghuacheng Site in Zhongxian County and the Construction of Its Archaeological Site Park
The Huanghuacheng Site in Zhongxian County, once the capital city of Xianchun prefectural city in Kui Zhou Road of the Southern Song Dynasty, represent a significant component of the Song and Yuan mountain fortified city system.Uniquely situated as a water-bound mountain fortified city site on an isle in the Yangtze River,Huanghuacheng Site was an important testament to the Song and Yuan mountain fortified city system in the Sichuan and Chongqing regions.Following the inundation associated with the Three Gorges Dam's operation, while the peripheral beach and part of the outer city area submerged in water, the rest of the site remains above water level.Post the resettlement of the island's inhabitants, the area has been transformed into an ideal site for urban archaeology and the construction of archaeological site park.Based on the information from archaeological surveys, excavations and research, and in alignment with the site's distinctive attributes and the establishment of the National Wetland Park, the Huanghuacheng Archaeological Site Park has made commendable progress. This initiative serves as a case study for the protection and utilization of urban archaeological sites from the historical periods.
