Conservation and Re-utilization Practices of Water Industry Heritage in Europe——A Comparative Study with the Current Status and Future Prospects of China's Water Industry Heritage
Water industry heritage is a vital element of urban civilization,acting as a historical testament to humanity's endeavors to surmount challenges related to natural resource,environmental,and sanitary crises.This paper explores the relatively uncharted territory of industrial heritage through an introduction about The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage(TICCIH)and the research and practices undertaken by selected European countries in the preservation and renewal of water industry heritage.It traces the evolution of water industry in Europe,analyzing its defining features,evolution,representative hydraulic facilities,and key heritage sites throughout various historical phases.In light of the status of water industry heritage in China,this paper proposes a forward-looking approach to the research,identification,conservation,and re-utilization of such latent heritage from a multifaceted perspectives that encompasses discovery,revitalization,and stimulation of their dormant potential.
