Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)decoction consists of true solution, nanophase, emulsion and suspension, which is a complex polydispersed phase system. The active components of TCM decoction mainly exist in the nanophase.Compared with TCM decoction, the nano-phase has the characteristics of large solubility, high stability and good efficacy. With the deepening of research, some scholars have proposed that nanoparticles in decoction may play a role in solubilization and targeted delivery.Baihutang is one of the classical prescriptions for clearing heat, known as the"ancestor prescription of cold agents".It is made of Gypsum Fibrosum,Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, fried Radix Glycyrrhizae and Japonica rice.Traditionally,Baihutang is used to treat Yangming meridian syndrome or Qifen syndrome, and it is widely used in modern clinical practice. The nano-phase of Baihutang may encapsulate the active components of the drug and realize the targeted therapy of the drug. The study of different phase states of Baihutang found that the content of major pharmacodynamic components in the nano-phase was significantly higher than other phases in the liquid. The nano-phase played a solubilizing role in the main antipyretic components of the decoction, such as mangiferin, nemangiferin, calcium ion, glycyrrhizic acid and glycyrrhetinic acid. The nano-phase is the key component of the antipyretic effect of Baihutang. In this paper, the formation theory, preparation method, molecular characterization and pharmacological effect of nano-phase of Baihutang are reviewed, which provides scientific ideas for further exploration of action mechanism of Baihutang and its nano-phase preparation, and provides reference for promoting the application of nanotechnology in the innovation of traditional Chinese medicine formula.
