Top design and progress in comprehensive technology research,development,and demonstration for the prevention and control of major pests and diseases in China
Major pest and disease control is a critical aspect of China's national security,with signifi-cant strategic implications for safeguarding the security of national agricultural and forestry production,ensuring the quality of agricultural products,and maintaining ecological security.Major pest and dis-ease outbreaks are characterized by their sudden emergence,rapid spread,high risk,severe impact,and challenging control measures.To enhance the prevention and control system for crop pests and diseases and strengthen the management of invasive species,the National Key Research and Development Pro-gram has initiated the Key Special Project on"Comprehensive Technology Research,Development,and Demonstration for the Prevention and Control of Major Pests and Diseases."This project aims to inno-vate technologies for the prevention and control of major crop pests and diseases,establish and improve a detection and early warning network for major pests and diseases,understand regional disaster mecha-nisms,develop key prevention and control technologies and products,and create a comprehensive re-gional integrated prevention and control technology system.The goal is to provide technological sup-port for the safe production and sustainable,high-quality development of agriculture,forestry,and grass-lands.This paper summarizes the project's layout,implementation effectiveness,scientific and techno-logical achievements,and management measures,including a systematic analysis of annual task deploy-ments,distribution of central financial funds,allocation of research units,and participation levels across various research areas such as basic research,key technology development,and demonstration and pro-motion.It also reviews interim achievements to offer references for researchers,promotion institutions,technology users,and management departments involved in major pest and disease control.
