Synergistic efficacy of prairie sagebrush Artemisia frigida crude extract and entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae on the development of resistant grasshopper Oedaleus decorus asiaticus
In order to explore the synergistic control effect of crude extracts of prairie sagebrush Arte-misia frigida and entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae on grasshopper Oedaleus decorus asiaticus,we used different doses of M. anisopliae and crude extracts of A. frigida singly and in combi-nation,to determine their toxicities and the effect of growth and development to fourth instar O. de-corus asiaticus. The results showed that the combination of 10% crude extract of A. frigida with 108 spores/g M. anisopliae concentrations had significant effects on the mortality of O. decorus asiaticus with 82.50% than those of the crude extract of A. frigida and M. anisopliae alone and other compound-ing treatments. The 10% crude extract of A. frigida associated with 108 spores/g M. anisopliae and the combination of 20% crude extract of A. frigida with 108 spores/g M. anisopliae concentrations had sig-nificant effects on the body weight and length gain, growth rate and overall performance of female O. decorus asiaticus than those of the crude extract of A. frigida and M. anisopliae alone. Among them, the 10% A. frigida crude extract mixed with 108 spores/g M. anisopliae had the maximal control efficacy. The results indicated that the combinatorial treatment had synergistic and antagonistic effects on host mortality, growth, and development in O. decorus asiaticus, having a potential to be developed as a new type of biopesticide for sustained control of grasshoppers.
