Seigniorage Reform in Ming Dynasty as Seen from Alloy Composition
The Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty(1522-1566)was an important turning point in the his-tory of seigniorage in China.During this period,the material of coins in China changed from bronze to brass.Although this problem has been noticed by predecessors a long time ago,most of the previous studies are based on the separation of bronze and brass.Taking the alloy composition as the starting point and combining with Marxist political economy,this paper will consider the bronze material and brass ma-terial together in order to reveal the reasons for this seigniorage reform and its influence on the coin sys-tem of the Ming Dynasty and even the feudal society of our country.
