Different Patriotic Verses,The Same Heroic Spirit:A Comparative Reading of"Po Zhen Zi:Spirited Ode Dedicated to Chen Tongfu"and"Yong Yu Le:Reminiscing the Past at Bei Gu Pavilion,Jing Kou"
The text-based interpretation method is fundamental to the appreciation of ancient Chinese po-etry,but it is not the ultimate goal of such appreciation.Preliminary mastery of comparative thinking methods is an important learning goal of the new curriculum standard's"Speculative Reading and Expres-sion"learning task group.Comparative reading can not only allow teachers and students to discover textual differences in ancient poetry and further understand corresponding humanistic themes, but more important-ly,it can also stimulate more reasoning, questioning, discussion, extension, and application as well as maintain strong curiosity and thirst for knowledge, thus autonomously exploring, appreciating, absorbing and internalizing the cultural nourishment of ancient poetry. This paper, guided by the core literacy of the Chi-nese language, delves into a comparative analysis of two famous poems by Xin Qiji,"Po Zhen Zi:Spirited Ode Dedicated to Chen Tongfu"and"Yong Yu Le:Reminiscing the Past at Bei Gu Pavilion,Jing Kou"across three dimensions:the poet's story, poetic imagery, and ideological conflict. It reveals the deep con-notations and artistic characteristics of these poems in expressing themes of patriotism, battlefield, and heroism.Through such comparative reading, one can not only gain a more comprehensive understanding of the imagery and rhetoric of the poems but also profoundly appreciate the spiritual core and cultural value behind them. Therefore, this paper argues that comparative reading across dimensions of the poet's story, poetic imagery, and ideological conflict is an effective approach to exploring the development of core liter-acy in ancient Chinese poetry. This method not only enhances students'literary appreciation skills but also cultivates their critical thinking and creativity, thereby better understanding and inheriting the essence of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
