Study on the Imagery of"Du Juan"from the Perspective of Prototype Category
Prototype category theory is based on Wittgenstein's"family similarity"theory and has gradually developed. This theory suggests that members of the same category do not share all the features within the category, and there are no clear boundaries within the category. The category is divided into central and peripheral members, and their status within the category is unequal. The cognitive linguistic school also applies prototype theory to analyze language, believing that prototype members are the most typical mem-bers of the entire category, while other members of the category expand from prototype members through mechanisms such as metaphor and metonymy. The image of the cuckoo is a common image in ancient po-etry,which has gradually produced connotations far beyond its literal meaning under the construction of generations of poets. This article attempts to use the prototype category theory to analyze the prototype legend and prototype emotion of the cuckoo image in ancient poetry,as well as the different elements and emotional changes exhibited from the details of the prototype myth.
