The Fusion of History and Modernity:The Evolution of Public Space Attributes at the Circus Maximus Site
This paper explores the evolution of the public space attributes of the Circus Maximus archaeological site,a confluence of historical and modern elements.This historical continuity holds special significance in the evolution of its public space attributes.As the largest and most significant amphitheater of ancient Roman civilization,the Circus Maximus has experienced a trajectory from grandeur to decay.Yet,through a series of excavations and restorations,it has been revitalized and has emerged as a crucial public space in Rome.The aim of this study is to analyze the public space attributes of the Circus Maximus across various eras-the Roman Empire,the Middle Ages,the Renaissance,and contemporary times.The study employs qualitative research methods,including archival research and field observation,to elucidate the site's evolution.This transformation showcases the blend of historical and modern elements shaping the public space attributes of the Circus Maximus,highlighting the significance of public spaces in urban community building,shaping collective memory,and in the preservation of history and culture.This study,through the investigation of the uniqueness of Circus Maximus,provides a new perspective for understanding and appreciating the significant role of historical sites in modern public spaces.
