Exploring the Gated Community Vitality based on Space Syntax:A Case Study of Binlang Community in Xiamen City
Transforming open old communities into gated communities is a prevalent practice in community revitalization and renovation.However,the efficacy of this top-down transformation approach in preserving the community vitality remains controversial.This study focuses on the Binlang Community in Xiamen city and utilizes the DepthMapX software platform which is based on space syntax theory,to analyze the overall-integration(reachability)and visibility through morphological parameters including integration,choice,and visual integration before and after the conversion from an open community to a gated community,and combined with on-site investigations for comparison and verification.The study explores how the transformation impacts the community vitality including walkability system and public activity spaces,and thus proposes several optimization strategies for future community renovation and design practices.
