Mechanism of Formation of Spatial Characteristics of Traditional Dwellings in Nantong Historic District
Local traditional houses are influenced by economic,cultural,natural conditions,and other factors,resulting in characteristics independent of the overall characteristics of the region.These characteristics and their formation mechanisms have positive significance for the value cognition and protection and utilization of traditional houses.The special spatial characteristics of traditional houses in Nantong historic district and its formation mechanism are analyzed and summarized in this paper from the three levels of group relationship,courtyard organization and architectural space.Among them,the community relationship is affected by the urban space,traditional economy and clan relationship,showing the balanced characteristics;the courtyard organization is affected by the urban construction,natural conditions,and defense needs,resulting in the characteristics of axial shift and triple doors;the architectural space adopts the practice of fewer compartments and larger surface width due to the needs of the traditional handicrafts production and the low level of economic development.
