Clinical characteristics of 70 children with human metapenu-movirus pneumonia
Objective To explore the clinical characteristics of human metapenu-movirus(hMPV)pneumonia in children. Methods Epidemiological characteristics clinical manifestation, laboratory examination, imaging features, treatment and outcome of 70 hMPV pneumonia in children who were admitted to Department of Pediatrics, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from April 2023 to March 2024 were collect and analyzed. Results hMPV pneumonia predominantly affected children under 5 years old(55 cases),with a higher incidence in spring(36 cases),and 54.3%with bacterial infection.Clinical manifestation included coughing(70 cases),fever(65 cases),breathlessness(7 cases),and wheezing(19 cases).48 cases had lung rales,38 cases were wet rales.34 cases showed elevated C-reactive protein and elevated procalcitonin in 7 cases.Chest X-ray showed 55 cases of patchy shadows,7 cases of lung consolidation, and 8 cases of gridded or ground glass shadows.38 cases were complicated with bacterial infections and treated with antibiotics,29 cases were treated with glucocorticoids,9 cases with bronchoalveolar lavage,2 cases with oxygen therapy, and 1 case with immunoglobulin, none required antiviral drugs or mechanical ventilation.Hospital stays varied between 3 and 15 days, averaged at 5.7 days. All cases improved and were discharged from the hospital. Conclusion hMPV pneumonia usually occurs in children less than or equal to 5 years old,and tends to occur in spring.Children with hMPV pneumonia were mainly characterized by fever and cough, bacterial co-infection is more common. The overall prognosis is good.
