Effects of Phosphorus on the Growth and Development of Adzuki Bean at Seedling Stage
Seedlings of 12 adzuki bean varieties at six-day stage after sowing under hydroponic culture of both P-deficiency nutrient solution and normal supply solution were taken as materials to test their agronomic traits and physiological characteristics. The results showed that the treatment of the P-deficiency significantly reduced plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, while root length and root shoot ratio of each adzuki bean varieties increased.the P-deficiency treatment reduced the chlorophyll content, the maximum fluorescence (Fm) and photochemical conversion efficiency (Fv/Fm),increased initial chlorophyll fluorescence (Fo),MDA content,SOD activity,POD activity;Under the P-deficiency treatment, phosphorus content decreased in roots, stems, while the phosphorus content in leaves was the highest. The P-deficiency treatment had adverse effect on agronomic traits of different adzuki bean seedlings.Root shoot ratio and leaf area greatly influenced by phosphorus, which could be taken as index of phosphorus resistance screening for adzuki beans. From the phosphorus resistance synthetical indices,we could found that the order of phosphorus resistance was B1789 > Jinhong 1 > Jiongnong 2,while Jinhong 5 was phosphorus-sensitive variety; The physiological characteristics showed that phosphorus-resistant varieties slightly changed, while the phosphorus-sensitive varieties largely changed. The P-deficiency treatment reduced the content of phosphorus in root, stem, leaf of adzuki bean varieties.
