Fabian socialism emerged as a prominent movement of social thought at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century,with its democratic notions as the key to understanding Fabian socialist ideals.Leaders of the Fabian Society such as George Bernard Shaw,the Webbs,and G.D.H.Cole redefined the concept of democracy to elaborate their different socialist ideas.With the analysis of the conno-tations and evolution of democratic views within the early Fabian Society,it can be seen how they reconciled Western democracy with socialist ideology and the inherent contradictions that arose in this process.
