As a prominent political philosopher of our time,Taylor has always been concerned with the issue of democracy. In the 1980s,he proposed republican democracy, attempting to elucidate the normative aspects of democracy through theoretical construction. However, the discourse of republican democracy has always been positioned from an elite standpoint, neglecting the active role of the people in the construction of democratic concepts. With the continuous decline of democracy since the 21st century,Taylor,on the basis of criticizing the reality of Western political society, turns to propose the concept of"telic democracy",striving to reconstruct republican democracy using the discourse of social imaginaries. He believes that although populism poses a threat to democracy,it is not an enemy of democracy.Through the transformation and elevation of the discourse of social imaginaries, populism can also serve the reconstruction of democracy.
