Derrida and Chinese Literature and Chinese Philosophy
Derrida argues that China has no"philosophy"and that its writing is"non-philosophical",which can be used to criticize the philosophical hegemony of Western logocentrism. The dominant element he analyzes in Chinese is the hieroglyphic or"trace",which transcends phonological prerogatives and focuses on the essential structure of the language as the constant suppléer and différance, this,in turn, preserves the creative vitality of the language, preventing it from being solidified and ossified by the metaphysics of"ontology".However,Derrida did not realize that the Chinese language, which is not ontological, also has its own metaphysics, that is,"after ethics".This ignorance led Derrida to block the passage from Chinese and Western metaphysics to a higher metaphysics, namely,"after linguistics".
