Analysis of Direct Economic Burden and Influencing Factors of Patients with Essential Hypertension in China
Objective:To analyse the direct economic burden and its influencing factors of patients with essential hypertension in China, and to provide reference for effectively reducing the disease burden of hypertension. Methods:The baseline survey data of 43 769 patients with essential hypertension was collected from 220 primary medical institutions in 15 provinces under the subproject of"Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factor Surveillance and Standardized Management of Hypertension"of China's Health Profession Scientific Research. The direct economic burden was estimated by direct method. The direct economic burden followed skewed distribution by normality test, and it was approximately normalized by logarithmic transformation. After that, the main influencing factors of the direct economic burden of patients with essential hypertension were analyzed by multiple linear stepwise regression model. Results:The per capita direct economic burden of patients with essential hypertension in China was 5 461.50(2 812.50,10 367.50)yuan,the per capita direct medical cost was 5 413.50(2 796.40,10 300.00)yuan,and the per capita direct non-medical cost was 12.00(4.00,32.00)yuan.Among the direct medical expenses, the per capita outpatient fee, hospitalization fee,and self-purchased medicine fee were 240.00(80.00,700.00)yuan,4 200.00(2 300.00,8 000.00)yuan,and 200.00(80.00,500.00)yuan,respectively.The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors of direct economic burden of essential hypertension patients with junior high school education or above, married, retired persons, annual per capita family income of 50 000 to 90 000 yuan, hypertension course≥5 years and number of visits≥10 times. Conclusion:The direct economic burden of patients with essential hypertension in China is relatively high.Education level, marital status, occupation, per capita income of family, course of hypertension and frequency of medical treatment are the main influencing factors of direct economic burden of essential hypertension patients in China.
