Objective:The effects of Qinggan Huatan decoction on common carotid artery intima-media(IMT)and bilateral common carotid artery elasticity parameters in prehypertensive(PHT)subjects were evaluated by means of quality intima-media thickness(QIMT)and quantitative artery stiffness(QAS).Methods:Fifteen PHT subjects were recruited from healthy physical examination population and treated with Qinggan Huatan decoction for 3 months.The blood pressure in the examination room,the thickness of common carotid IMT,the distensibility coefficient(DC),compliance coefficient(CC),stiffness index(α,β),pulse wave velocity(PWV),and other elastic indexes were compared before and after treatment.Results:After treatment,the subjects'systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure and common carotid artery IMT decreased(P＜0.01),and the elastic parameters of both common carotid arteries improved(P＜0.01).After treatment,serum uric acid,fasting blood glucose,total cholesterol,triglyceride,and low-density lipoprotein decreased(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Conclusion:Qinggan Huatan decoction can regulate and stabilize blood pressure by improving blood vessel elasticity.
